The area itself is approximately 2.6 square miles, much of which is lined with winding residential streets incorporated with natural elements like mature trees and deer.
Edgemont is nestled within an “unincorporated” part of the town of Greenburgh. Of its approximate 2,900 households, the majority have Scarsdale addresses. A new push for self-sufficiency is prompting locals to fight for the area’s independence; in 2017, a petition that garnered upwards of 1,400 signatures called for a referendum to vote on making Edgemont the seventh village in Greenburgh.
However, the referendum has yet to occur. A second petition was rejected in July after garnering 1,740 signatures. Paul Feiner, Greenburgh’s town supervisor, opposes the decision due to the anticipated higher tax rates.
Regardless of the area’s official geographical status, it’s recognized as having some of the best schools in the state. Niche, the educational review website, recently ranked the Edgemont Union Free School District 17th out of 677 districts in New York State. The district serves about 2,000 students between kindergarten and 12th grade.
Ultimately, Edgemont is a one-of-a-kind community bursting with beauty, comfort and convenience.
